STEP 1 - ABOUT YOU
Let’s say you run a lawn and landscaping business, or a limousine service, or a small/medium manufacturing company making gadgets (everybody else makes widgets we’re tired of widgets).
Mowing and landscaping lawns, delivering customers, and making gadgets for your customers bring dollars to your business. Just filling out the “necessary (?)” forms doesn’t bring dollars to your business.
You are thinking (or should be thinking) about making some changes in your business because...
Your business is growing rapidly and you fear that some things may be falling through the crack:
- Customer service followup
- Transaction recording
- Timely billing
- Other
You don’t think your business is growing as rapidly as it should and you think it may be because you’re spending too much time attending to the details of the business and not enough time on that most important of effortsacquiring and keeping new customers/clients.
--OR--
You think your business is doing fine and things are being taken care of properly but you have decided you want to expand and believe your current support setup may be at its limit.
You’ve been thinking…what are my options?
- Hire and train a person to make sure stuff doesn’t fall through the cracks?
- Spend more of my time on detailed management?
- Go ahead with the sales expansion efforts and see how well (or if) the existing system handles it?
- Never mind.
Finding, hiring, training, and providing office space and equipment for that administrative person can get into some serious money…what if I go through all that and then, after a while the person leaves? Then I’ve got to go through it all again, defeating the purpose of giving me more time for marketing, sales, and over-all management.
The “Never Mind” option…just forging ahead with expansion without improving or expanding our support system can quickly put us into the “overwhelmed mode”.
